What does NameScore check?

NameScore looks at every angle of your name - from trademark safety to sound and style - to show how strong your name really is.

  1. 1
    Trademark Safety

International trademark databases are checked to see whether the name - or similar ones - are already protected.
» Ensures the brand can grow without legal risk.

  2. 2
    Domain Availability

Shows which top-level domains are still available for the name.
» Own your digital identity and stay consistent across channels.

  3. 3
Search Engine & App Store Visibility

Analyzes how unique the name is online and whether it already exists in major app stores.
» A unique name stands out and is easier to rank and find.

  4. 4
    Social Media Presence

Checks whether the name is already in use on major social networks.
» Consistent handles strengthen recognition and user trust.

  5. 5
    Company Register Check

Searches business registers to identify existing companies with the same or similar names.
» Avoids confusion and strengthens brand credibility.

  6. 6
    Linguistic & Safety Check

Detects hidden meanings, translations, or potentially negative associations.
» Prevents linguistic pitfalls and ensures the name works globally.

  7. 7
    Sound & Style Analysis

Evaluates how the name sounds - hard or soft, fast or smooth - and what emotions it evokes.
» Because how a name feels matters as much as how it looks.

  8. 8
    Length & Structure

Assesses readability, memorability, and fit for URLs or product branding.
» Short, simple names are easier to remember and use.

Every aspect contributes to your final NameScore - so you know exactly where your name shines and where it needs work.

Feedback that speaks for itself

The right name often shapes the first impression - and success.
Here, founders and companies share their experiences with NameScore - honest, direct, and inspiring.

  • NameScore didn’t look really clear to me until I saw a report.

This is a must-use tool for those who want to establish their name but also check if there are any already existing companies with the same name. The app has many different checks (and I think more to come) to ensure you do not commit to a name and then need to change it because either the handle on a social network isn’t available, or a trademark in some country already exists.

  • I didn’t expect such a detailed breakdown. The report highlighted details I’d easily overlook - like existing trademarks or linguistic nuances - and confirmed that Fileo is a solid, scalable name. A great sanity check before investing in branding.

Which aspects does NameScore evaluate?

NameScore evaluates different aspects of your name — from classic trademark research and online marketability to sound assessments based on the phonemes it contains. This means NameScore’s checks cover legal*, marketing-relevant, and aesthetic considerations.

The checks performed address, among other things, the following aspects of your name:

  • Trademark research — Is your name, or a similar name, already protected as a trademark?
  • Domain availability — Which top-level domains are available?
  • Search engine / app store availability — Is your name already common in major search engines and app stores?
  • Social media availability — In which social networks is your name already in use?
  • Hidden potentials and pitfalls — Does your name contain terms in other languages or hidden meanings?
  • Sound — What are your name’s acoustic qualities? Does it sound rather hard or soft?

The NameScore team is constantly expanding the NameReport. The report is therefore regularly updated with new content.
